With the rise of the Halloween, we come to possibly creation to come out the Peanuts library. The Great Pumpkin. I've always had a soft spot for Linus and his sitting and waiting for the fictional Great Pumpkin.
I would be on Linus' side and would actually sit in the pumpkin patch with him. While growing up I did not live near a pumpkin patch but I did live near a quarry. That's almost the same thing.
Feeling for Linus, despite not believing in the Great Pumpkin and actually wanting to sit with him in the pumpkin patch may be related to my cemetery obsession. I love sitting in a cemetery and just thinking. It may be weird to some people but so is sitting in a pumpkin patch waiting for a figment of your imagination.
Of course in Linus' defense, he truly believes the Great Pumpkin exists. Even though everything is stacked against him, he still goes every year. And that is a sign of strength that a lot of people just don't have. And that will make Linus an amazing adult.
I wonder how Linus got confused on the concept of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. Was it something his parents did? Something that Lucy said? A part of me actually thinks it's Lucy's fault and she hides her guilt with anger and insults.
Oh, poor Linus. Maybe next year.
