Oh, Brutus! You just can't win.
There's been a lot of golf lately but I want to comment on how Brutus seems to address the readers of his comic strip. Why does he have to turn his head toward us to say his last panel joke? It's something a lot of comic strip characters do, they look back at the reader and with a sigh say the final joke. Now, Peanuts and Calvin and Hobbes did it differently--we wanted to be a part of Charlie Brown's world so we imagined ourselves right there and Calvin and Hobbes seemed to be staring off into space, like real humans do. I don't want to be in Brutus' world, nor is he staring off into space. Right now, he's just some dirty old man with his face pressed up against a hole.....
