Do You Think I'm Sexy?

Drove through the small (population 28) town of Mildred, Kansas on the way to deliver something for work. Mildred was established in 1907 and boomed to a population of 2,000 in 1912 because of a cement plant that was built in the area. The plant was closed temporarily during World War I but when it reopened in the 1920s, it never ran at full capacity again. During the Depression, the plant was closed again, this time permanently. Today, Mildred is still there with a handful of houses (many of them abandoned and dilapidated), cracked sidewalks, stairs to nowhere and a general store named Charlie Brown's Market.

Today is the 148th anniversary of William Quantrill and his men burning down my hometown of Lawrence. In commemoration of the event, I wrote a story, not about the burning of Lawrence but of the burning of Brooklyn, a small town south of Lawrence. You can also read last year's "Thursday Comics" entry featuring pictures of the massacre and a reprint of The Kents #1.

Luckily the question was "Do you mind if I take the next two months off with pay?" so joke's on you Veeblefester! Bwa-ha-ha-ha-ha!!
