Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Journey Into Fear was Canada's first horror-themed comic book. Published by Superior Publishers, Journey Into Fear last only 21 issues between 1951 and 1954. One of the issues was cited by Frederick Wertham in his "Seduction of the Innocent" and the series was probably discontinued due to the implementation of the Comics Code Authority in late 1954.

"Ghost Bride" was the first comic in Journey Into Fear #4 (Nov. 1951) and it's not very fear-inducing. It's about a woman who has a very specific medical condition and her husband who showers her with jewelry so she doesn't die. H a p p y   H a l l o w e e n !

Mary Worth
Libby and Pierre seem to be getting along. I can't wait for Libby to teach Pierre a thing or two and turn Wilbur's own dog against him when he and Estelle inevitably get back together.

Baby Blues
I'm wondering where Wren is? Is she in the pumpkin that Ham has stabbed all the carving tools through?

The Family Circus
"Can't a guy take a leak behind a tree without his children whining?"

The Born Loser
Oh, Wilberforce, most of the scariest things on this planet hide right in plain sight in broad daylight. Good night.

How Did Lukey Even Get the Idea?

Barney Google and Snuffy Smith
Not like that anyway. Why would Lukey want to do something like braid his beard in the first place? That's not something someone from Appalachia does. Brooklyn, yes. Appalachia, no.

Crankshaft and Funky Winkerbean
I don't care if they are set in the same universe, Batiuk, I do NOT want to see Ed Crankshaft twice in one day.

Baby Blues
Dear parents, you do not need to give me a card or anything else apologizing for how terrible your kids are or might be. You have kids, I'm just going to assume that they will be terrible until they prove me wrong. For the most part, they are good but this is a comic strip and just like a TV show, kids and babies always have to be terrible when out in public even if they normally aren't.

Do They Serve Radishes?

Crock
I'm shocked that any of these have books considering the librarians' idea of suggesting something good is to recommend a piece of used clothing.

Baby Blues
I want to applaud the owners of Club Radish for really sticking to the theme. The 'A' is a radish. The deejay is a radish. Even the windows are in the shape of radishes. Sure the giant radish head is a little nightmarish but who do you want deejaying at Club Radish, a guy with a giant mouse head?

Midnight Comics

Baby Blues
When I was a kid, I accidentally spilled some juice or something down the back of the family TV and it immediately sparked and went out. My Mom was napping at the time so I just took a nap too. When Mom got up, she discovered what happened and got really upset. Seriously, I feared for my life. Don't get between my Mom and Dallas.

Dennis the Menace
Leave it to Dennis the Menace to perpetuate the myth of Columbus. But Dennis is doing some top-notch menacing here. Not only is he hailing Columbus as a hero and fun guy, he's also wondering why there weren't more white people around.

Mother Goose and Grimm
That's not how acupuncture works...

The Lockhorns
I didn't even read the text. I just saw that dog and knew I had to post this comic.

Oh, Loretta's mad at Leroy so he's going to go golfing.

The dog is better.

He's Gonna Run Out of Doctors Sooner or Later

Mary Worth
Well, this makes more sense. Tommy has been addicted to vicodin for weeks, not just days as readers have assumed. But instead of being a cautionary tale of what vicodin does to an addict, this is mainly showing how doctors are unable or unwilling to do any necessary tests to prove someone's back hurts.

Baby Blues
HE'S RIDING HIS BIKE ON A TREE BRANCH!! HE CARRIED HIS BIKE UP A TREE SO HE COULD RIDE IT ON A TREE BRANCH!! But he wore his helmet.

The Born Loser
Shut up, Brutus! Your wife brought an entire box of doughnuts for no reason at all! Just enjoy them!

It's the Ears That Will Keep Him Single

Mallard Fillmore
Is this seriously saying that Hillary is not as experienced as Bernie Sanders? Hillary has been serving people her entire life from being a lawyer to First Lady to U.S. Senator to Secretary of State. Bernie, with all due respect, does not compare to that.

Funky Winkerbean
Hazing is always more fun when the spectre of death is lingering right around the corner.

Baby Blues
But sometimes that doesn't work Hammie, sometimes women still think a guy like that is marry-able. Jelly or not.

Hi and Lois
Hey, readers, don't spend too much time on that last panel even though it's more colorful, points out that she's naked, and stares directly at you. They're watching you, you perverts.

Love That Third Panel

Family Circus
Heh. This panel was pretty funny back in the 1990s, and the 1980s, and, I'm pretty sure, it was funny back in the 1970s as well.

Baby Blues
It's the same outside. It's just that the 24-hour news cycle makes the world seem like dangerous place.

Mallard Fillmore
The comments on this strip devolved into how liberals and, specifically, #BlackLivesMatter protesters need to learn from this quote. Your average #BLM protester doesn't hate the police but hate the practices of shooting first and asking questions later especially related to the African American community. You can support #BLM and the police. People who are spouting that All Lives Matter or Blue Lives Matter aren't seeing the point and they are seeing it either through hate or indifference. At least #BLM and its supporters are looking at the problem with love of our follow human and hope that our police can strive to be better.

No Matter How Dystopic the Story Is There Is Always Room for Sex

Baby Blues
You don't have to worry about boys getting handsy with your daughter if you raise her to have self esteem, assertiveness, are a good role model, and talk to her about sex and relationships. But I guess ripping pages out of a book is a good idea, too.

Mary Worth
YAAAASSS!!! Mary Worth inserting herself into the private lives of the people who write into Wilbur's stupid advice column. Meanwhile, Wilbur is off on his yearly stint at The Santa Royale Rehabilitation Center.

I've Never Noticed Resemblances

Beetle Bailey
Wait a minute. Back on Sunday, Beetle got in trouble for enacting their training. Since Halftrack now believes their training is important, here's hoping Beetle's punishment has been reduced.

Baby Blues
You could also teach your kids not to do things like this.

Or, just not have kids.

panel from Blondie
That dog looks really familiar. Where have I seen him before?

!!!

Luann
I'm liking this guy.

Mallard Fillmore
No one is forcing you to use the restroom with other people, Mallard. Also, no one is beating you up or threatening your life when you walk into a restroom. This argument that transgender people are freaks of nature doesn't work when you use an anthropomorphic, suit-wearing, talking duck as an avatar.

Omelets Sound Good

Oh, so that's a laser. I'm gonna start using that panel whenever I can. Something about it is just hysterical.

"And explaining she could take no more, Zoe MacPherson left baby Wren in the car, released the parking brake and let the car roll into the lake."

Huh?

So Gladys keeps forgetting to add cheese and meat? I don't get it.
