There need to be people working the switchboard, I don't know why we think that's a "less-than" job. I always figured mostly women worked switchboards because people would rather hear a woman's voice directing your call, but I understand switchboards may also be rooted in sexism. It's how this country runs: either sexism or racism. Occasionally both.
