It's clear that Brutus' phone is some poor man's Jitterbug phone, right? Look at it, it is just a small phone with a giant button that probably says "CALL". And don't tell me I haven't thought this through by asking "Then how did he reach his carrier's customer service line?" Well, idiot, when you press CALL the first time, it sends you there and they enter in the phone number that you want that button to dial. He's just now setting up his phone despite getting it back on Christmas.
