What Did He Expect?

April 20, 1967
I like Sally. I sometimes wish I had a troublesome neighbor girl who bothered me. Kind of like Dennis the Menace, but more in the vein of today's Hurricane Hattie. Maybe Elmo from Blondie. I don't want them to vandalize my property, I just want them say and do funny things around me and consider me a safe person to talk to.

Did someone else write 'disappoint'? Or at least the 'oint' part?

I am officially going to be working at a historic site in my city for the foreseeable future. So I guess my day wasn't disappointing. Hopefully I will be greeting guests at our 1870 mansion for years to come.

Let's Rewatch How It All Went Wrong!

September 13, 1987
Did it take this electrician a month to make the appointment? Did the Eddys move because their entire house shorted out? "If we turn on more than three lamps, the house will burn down."

See? No lucky jersey.

I don't really like to watch either of these things, football(?) or singing competitions, but if you held a gun to my head, I'd probably pick...Honestly, the football game. I know, I'm surprised, too.

Yesterday, a more in-depth biography of Anthony Overton and his Overton Hygienic Manufacturing Company posted. Read about the first Black person to own a conglomerate. If you would like to support me or this website, you can click the link at the top of the page.

I know someone who needs to be visited by 3 ghosts...not that I think it'll help

Look at this dipshit.

President Trump picks up his FIFA Peace Prize
like he's Swiper the Fox.

This is what happens when your houses are made of ticky-tacky and all look just the same. Even the trees are the same.

What I would hate about being in this scenario is that now Brutus has to move his car.

Wilberforce is Tiny Tim?! Is Wilberforce dying? Does Wilberforce have renal tubular acidosis or rickets? Maybe Wilberforce should suggest he's more like one of the Cratchit's healthier children.

And let's be honest, Mother Gargle is not the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. If you want to insult her, Mother Gargle could be compared to Ignorance or Want. What about the charwoman or laundress who steals Scrooge's things for money after he dies? Do make Mother Gargle one of the awesome ghosts who serve an important purpose.

Such an Awkwardly Written Last Panel

June 24, 1966
There's a simple solution to this. Don't loan things out to your neighbor. They're your neighbor, not a friend. They may act all friendly and polite, but they'll report you to the city if your gutters so much as look at them funny.

Of course they all remember each other. They probably get together for lunch or something every couple weeks. Not to mention the trauma bond they all share.

Friday Chat

October 12, 1965
That seems like a very weird place for this picture? needlepoint? cross-stitching? And what does that other guy have on his wall? Is that a wine glass?

Typically, when you are called into the boss's office, it is not for a friendly chat. You're getting written up, Brutus. It's your seventh one. Five more and Veeblefester might actually have to do something.

Slurp N Burp

July 22, 1965
This guy is holding the hose like he wants his sexy neighbor to hold his...Can I finish this sentence? I mean, this is kind of a family website but is it really?

Well, that's enough Born Loser for today.

Neighborino

"Ha ha! My son's an idiot!" So it's official, Wilberforce is eight.

Waitaminute...Gladys
                      Callie
                      Wilberforce
                      Willie
If only Franklin's name was Bruce or something then I'd think these are pod people here to replace the Thornapples. About time, honestly.

Wrong

You may have heard that a draft of a decision from the Supreme Court of the United States was leaked last night. Essentially, the draft reveals that the Supreme Court is poised to overturn the 1973 decision of Roe v. Wade, which means that within months, abortion could be criminalized in most states.

I, personally, find it very strange that we would outlaw something that is something only the woman and their doctor should be concerned about and that we are doing nothing to actually stop abortions. Criminalizing abortion doesn't end abortion. What does? Maternity and paternity leave, universal health care, comprehensive sexual education, a steady income, good education, free or cheap daycare and pre-K, a social welfare safety net. At the bare minimum, if you are going to force children to be born, you should offer at least the bare necessities of food, water, and shelter, and we, as a country, can't even do that.

Anyway, the fight isn't over--they never are for some reason. Abortion funds are grassroot organizations that help people obtain abortions, the abortion pills, transportation, lodging, and other services to help people get the care they need. If you would like to donate and help fight this fight, you can search for your state at abortionfunds.org.

I knew this was coming when I saw the middle panel up on GoComics.

I bet Chip was pretty proud of himself when he finished this comic. Probably chuckled all the way to the post office. "Frank Lloyd? Right!" he guffawed as he handed the postal employee the envelope of comics he mails to United Features.

1181: Why Not Just Go To the Store?!

I stopped by the Miller house on my way home from work on Friday because it had been awhile since I drove up to the house. I can see it fine from the railroad tracks but I can't get the full impact from there. The gate happened to be open so I drove up the long driveway, which is getting more and more rutted out due to large trucks and lack of improvements. As we came to where the circle drive connects, I noticed the large tree that had fallen over near the house and was just laying there, starting to rot. I originally thought that the fallen tree was new but it's also there in the Google satellite image so it's been fallen over for at least a year.

I was going to get out and take some pictures but the grass was so tall and everything looked so precarious that I didn't feel, at that time, like it was safe. There was also a large truck blocking the road as well as the tree so getting turned around and back out was also a bit of a chore. I noticed that there was no glass left in any of the windows and the back porch had collapsed at some point in the last two years.

Ever since I learned about the Miller house in 2001, I have fully expected the house to either be torn down or, due to vandals, burned down. I never expected it to fall down due to neglect and I've talked with the owner about it and it's just too costly to renovate so neither he nor the historical groups he's talked to can afford that kind of investment. Currently the property is being used to house farming equipment and other things for the owner's farming business.

The house was in the Miller family for over 100 years and two of their children are buried on the property behind the house. I would love to preserve the house and refurbish the stone for the two children but I, too, lack the funds. If nothing else, I would like to purchase a new stone for the kids or relocate the graves before it's too late.

How did you let the dog food run out? Who goes to a neighbor to get spare dog food? Who does this? I ask you. Who, when they run out of dog food, would just go to a neighbor's house and ask for food? People don't even go to their neighbors to ask for a cup of sugar or two eggs anymore because everyone is a stranger and we need to be scared of everyone who isn't us.

A Word About Spam and Hattie Makes a New Friend

First things first, there will be some changes to the comments from now on as I am getting too much spam and even though I moderate all comments that come through, reading pointless spam messages every other day gets kind of annoying. They aren't even spamming me with stuff I actually use or talk about. They spam me about how to write textbooks and say that my website is great and informative. How is it informative? The three posts I used to talk about ghost towns in my area? My site isn't Wikipedia no matter how much I want it to be.

Eight-year-olds shouldn't have cell phones. They also shouldn't (and it's against policy) have a Facebook and/or MySpace page. There's a lot of things eight-year-olds shouldn't have because eight-year-olds don't have to keep up with the Joneses. Hell, eight-year-olds think the Joneses are kind of creepy because they put plastic over their couch.

Born Loser 06-17-10
Hattie has a new friend to "make movies" with. I don't know his name but he looks like a winner. In all honesty, if this kid had a crew cut he'd look exactly like Puglsey Addams.

Fine, bitch. Do it your damn self.

Let the Christmas Jokes Begin

Born Loser 12-01-09
How come whenever Brutus looks out the window at his neighbor's house he always looks like he's going to burn their place down?

When I read the first panel I thought the same thing. It's not too early to put up decorations. I think putting up decorations within the first week after Thanksgiving is perfectly fine. Putting up decorations any time before November is plain wrong. This also leads me to another question. Can I buy 2010 Christmas decorations now?
