Fictional Friday
I know I'm really late with this but it took me quite a while to figure out which fictional characters best described me. Yesterday, I finally figured it out. Judge Harold T. Stone (Harry Anderson) from Night Court. Dave Nelson (Dave Foley) from NewsRadio. Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor) from How I Met Your Mother. I don't need to go into why I chose these three. I suggest you find them streaming, buy/rent DVDs, and watch the shows for yourself. They are all really good shows.
Honestly, you'd get a better laugh watching these shows than reading about the comics I chose for today.
Real Life Adventures
I went to school at a rural high school and this happened a lot. People would gather around a car with its hood open and talk about what was wrong while drinking beer but rarely, if ever, did any actual fixing. It's good to know this happens in the suburbs as well.
The Born Loser
"But that wasn't one of the choices, Chief."
"You're fired, Thornapple."
Amazing Spider-Man
"He was here all along?! If only I had turned my head just slightly to the right, I would've seen him!"
Those ropes totally look like they are tied tightly around him.
Six Chix
One of the things I love about Six Chix, Benita Epstein in particular, are her pug drawings. Look at that thing.
Herb and Jamaal
Don't touch crotches. Don't touch crotches. Don't touch crotches.

I Mean, Just Look At That Blank Stare
Herb and Jamaal
"Umm, please don't roll around the floor right before you start cooking my food."
Scary Gary
Aren't hot dogs usually made of innards and hindquarters? Gary must've bought the cheap kind. Or the expensive kind, I don't know how that works with hot dogs.
Barney Google and Snuffy Smith
Is Jughaid lollygagging on spelling the word or is he literally unable to spell because of generations of inbreeding in Hootin' Holler?

It's Me Or the Dog
Before we get started on this entry, just a quick note about The Amazing Spider-Man:

As you may or may not know, fellow comic blogger Mike P has moved his "Amazing Spider-Blog" over to Meekrat Entertainment on WordPress. Go check it out and look at the other stuff he does including "Choose Your Own Blogventure".

Okay, time for a pet peeve of mine. Do people not notice the carton is empty? They grab the milk carton out of the fridge and begin pouring but they don't notice the carton is almost lighter than air?
And what about the person who used all the milk and put the empty carton back in the fridge? They, too, need to be punished.

Only $380,000? I looked up an obscure 16th Century Italian painter and discovered his paintings started at nearly a million dollars. So, no, Rover doesn't love you.

Does Archie spend all of his time at the Lodge mansion? Why doesn't Mr. Lodge just kick him out and if Veronica says "boo" he can just cancel her credit cards. Because Veronica does love money more than Archie.
But then again, who doesn't?

Does this mean something is finally going to happen?
No, probably not.

Mason Mastroianni apparently doesn't laugh very much...

Damn it all!! Kewpie is the family pet. He belongs to everyone. Brutus, Gladys, Wilberforce, everyone in the household. I don't want to have to tell you again.

Someone Get Me a Chair

I don't care how old or rare the painter/painting is, it's still an ugly picture and since it was a gift and I can't eBay it, it'll go in the basement.

Luckily the bottom of the last panel hides his erection. No one needs to see that.

Oh, sure. An ant in a post-apocalyptic future can win the lottery but I can't even win a free ticket.

Yeah, well, "The best defense is a good offense."

No, your conversation is not boring, it's just that we're standing up. Why are we standing when there are chairs right over there?

"Brutus? Who's the Girl, Brutus?"

Yesterday, we had "fencing". Today we have "home economics" and "baby doll". If we continue "quoting" tomorrow, I say "we" should use "finger quotes" in every "panel."

You two do realize what other things you could hear from the women's bathroom right? Plus I've seen what happens to people who bug restrooms. I've seen those Datelines and 20/20s.

It took me awhile to notice that the strip says Van Diesel and not Vin Diesel. This strip actually brings up some interesting things. Is it intentionally Van or did Armstrong forget Vin's name. Did he change it to Van so he could make that vehicle/fuel joke or did he fear repurcustions from Mr. Diesel himself?

I don't care how long it's been, I'm always up for a Peanuts parody.

Well, it's better because not only do I get sex at home, I get it at work now. And with none of that marriage crap attached to it.

No, I don't want a ride. I don't think I could fit in your car anyway...

I always figured Brutus' mom was dead. Hopefully we don't have a Norman Bates situation here.

Another Non-Brutus Day
Thanks for that narration, Dead-Beat Son. So she got the idea for you to take out the trash from your selfish ramblings? Looks like Momma's giving us the ol' reach around.
Do they really make solid gold checkbook covers? I did a Google search and found nothing on solid gold checkbook covers but maybe Herb knows some people. And I hate the shape of Jamaal's head.
Nancy caught Sluggo cheating again and Sluggo is trying to apologize. I still can't get enough of Nancy and Sluggo's relationship dance.
Yep, nothing like hearing the Little Liversville Philharmonic. Take that Boston.

Minority Comics Strike Back
I don't like it when the race card is played, especially on the comics page but I see where the creators of minority-themed strips are coming from. I know there are no minority strips in my local paper and I believe only Jump Start and Boondocks are in the nearby Kansas City Star. But the following comics used the same story in their February 10th Sunday strip as a joke-cum-protest toward editors who feel that all minority strips are interchangable.
The News Story from the St. Peterburg Time
Watch Your Heads by Cory Thomas
Herb and Jamaal by Stephen Bentley
Cafe Con Leche by Charlos Gary
Candorville by Darrin Bell
The K Chronicles by Keith Knight
Housebroken by Steve Watkins
And I know I left some off because more minority creators got in on the act. If you feel like perusing the many comic strips on the Internet, feel free to hunt down the remaining strips even though the plot is exactly the same.
