God, Just Talking About It Makes Me Start Shaking

November 8, 1987
Is air freight cheaper? Maybe you could reschedule his trip and send Brutus by barge. Sure, it'd take longer for him to get there but he'd be out of the office and out of your hair for quite a while.

Was business class not a thing at this time? I agree that first-class seems a bit much, but coach/economy seems just as bad. You want to convey at least some success and coach does not do that.

I hate when people have car trouble. It activates all my trauma receptors. I grew up never having a new car. My mom's car consisted of, from what I remember, a 1983 Ford Granada, 1986? Mercury Marquis, 1987 Mercury Cougar, with a small handful of other shitty cars thrown in. The Cougar was my mom's last car. It broke down and she got rid of it in 2018(?) and she never had a car or drove again. The amount of times our car broke down and we had to spend hundreds to get it fixed or just get a new car when I was a kid traumatized me greatly. I currently own a 2023 model and have money to fix the car but I get a panic attack every time I think the car makes a different noise.

That knocking doesn't bode well. I'm just gonna say it: A rod is going to shoot through your engine.

Self-Identified Rebel

November 26, 1966
Don't apologize. It's clear the stairs aren't there so why would he walk out? You can probably put those back. He won't need them anymore. Or keep going, maybe run him over.

I'm just imagining Brutus here as President Trump, who also can't really use airplane stairs.

"Why are you like this, Brutus? What are you rebelling against?" "What do ya got?" Brutus snarls while smoking and wearing sunglasses.

I don't believe for a second that Brutus ever rebelled in his life. I mean, look at him. People who rebel don't look like that.

To Sleep Perchance to Rest

A plane flies high in the air over mountains and valleys. The plane is labeled with "Veeblefetzer Corp." Inside, there is a man and the pilot. "Now this is the part that makes me nervous," the pilot says, pulling out a book. "Let's see...'How to land a plane...'"
May 11, 1966
I mean, he's clearly done it successfully before since, even though it makes him nervous, he's still alive. I would take solace in that, at least.

Veeblefetzer was the original name for things now named Veeblefester. I don't know why the change. Maybe Veeblefester rolled off the tongue better. According to Wikipedia, it's based off a word created by Harvey Kurtzman, but there's no attribution to that information.

Gladys is walking one way, following the noise of someone snoring. A giant yellow Z makes that clear. Brutus is spread out on the couch fast asleep and snoring giant yellow Zs. Gladys walks away. "Brutus Thornapple, the Born Snoozer!"
Is there something wrong with a man taking a nap after a hard day of, I'm assuming since it is Wednesday, work?

This Is All Arnie's Fault

Felix is definitely not doing dry January. I mean, you've seen this month. Enjoy this special Pat Sullivan Felix strip, one of the few original illustrations of Felix he did.

As Brutus and Gladys go through the airport and get on a plane, Gladys is constantly angry, looking at Brutus and going NAG NAG NAG NAG NAG NAG NAG NAG. Brutus just ignores her and lives his life. Suddenly, the nagging stops but Gladys is clearly still nagging. Brutus begins smiling and thinks "Flying faster than the speed of sound does have its advantages..."
August 24, 1986
Women, amirite?

What is Gladys complaining about? Look how easy it was to board this airplane! Shut up and enjoy the flight. Unless, she's not nagging and Brutus is just assuming she is. Maybe she's angrily asking why Wilberforce isn't coming with them. He doesn't get dinner or a vacation.

Arnie walks up to Brutus, who is shoveling snow. "Hey there, Brutus. How was your business trip to Pittsburgh?" "It was fine. Once I finally got there." "Uh-oh, don't tell me you missed your flight! Didn't you take my advice about getting to the airport extra early for your flight?" "I did follow your advice. I arrived four hours before my departure time so I was extra early for my eventual eight-hour flight delay."
Someone on GoComics asked why the plane was delayed so long. I would assume it's because of the snow that's up to their knees.

It will never not amaze me that Brutus takes a plane from Cleveland to Pittsburgh which is, at most, a two and a half hour drive. I guess if Veeblefester is willing to pay for it, then who am I to question it?

As I move away from social media, more things that were exclusive to my social media will be posted here. The first entry was an updated and expanded post on Trail Park in Baldwin City, Kansas, a small park commemorating the Santa Fe Trail. Two-Recliner Family

December 7, 1965
Yeah, sure, it's disturbing that the plane is flying upside down, but 500 feet is not very high up. The Washington Monument is 555 feet. This flight is definitely getting on the news tonight.

I'm too tired to look it up, but I don't think I've ever seen the Thornapple house with recliners. They are a feet up on the ottoman family.
