To Sleep Perchance to Rest

A plane flies high in the air over mountains and valleys. The plane is labeled with "Veeblefetzer Corp." Inside, there is a man and the pilot. "Now this is the part that makes me nervous," the pilot says, pulling out a book. "Let's see...'How to land a plane...'"
May 11, 1966
I mean, he's clearly done it successfully before since, even though it makes him nervous, he's still alive. I would take solace in that, at least.

Veeblefetzer was the original name for things now named Veeblefester. I don't know why the change. Maybe Veeblefester rolled off the tongue better. According to Wikipedia, it's based off a word created by Harvey Kurtzman, but there's no attribution to that information.

Gladys is walking one way, following the noise of someone snoring. A giant yellow Z makes that clear. Brutus is spread out on the couch fast asleep and snoring giant yellow Zs. Gladys walks away. "Brutus Thornapple, the Born Snoozer!"
Is there something wrong with a man taking a nap after a hard day of, I'm assuming since it is Wednesday, work?

4:55 P.M. On a Friday

A man wearing a top hat floating in a hot air balloon waves his cane screaming "Scat! Shoo!" at a flock of birds heading toward him.
April 29, 1966
I guess Hans Pfaall won't be making it to the Moon today. This isn't even a hot air balloon, it's just a balloon. How's he gonna get down? He's just gonna stay in the air until the balloon deflates. Or, I guess gets punctured by 30-40 feral geese.

FINALLY!! 🎊🎉🥳I support Brutus' downward spiral we're going to see over the next month or so. To be fair, Brutus was a DEI hire before DEI was a thing so this was probably coming anyway. Arnie's the next to go. For obvious reasons.

Two-Recliner Family

December 7, 1965
Yeah, sure, it's disturbing that the plane is flying upside down, but 500 feet is not very high up. The Washington Monument is 555 feet. This flight is definitely getting on the news tonight.

I'm too tired to look it up, but I don't think I've ever seen the Thornapple house with recliners. They are a feet up on the ottoman family.

Miss Preen Is Happy To Get Rid of Him

August 16, 1965
Dude, step back. She doesn't need you all up in her business. Everyone is standing too close to each other. I mean, I know you are mainly just passing around slips of paper with your info on them but still...

Wouldn't those pennies already be rolled up and ready to go? This should still go quicker than waiting for the ten people you were behind.

Bon voyage, Brutus Thornapple. And don't come back!

Flying to San Diego makes a lot more sense than flying to Pittsburgh from where Brutus is.

I Don't Mind Getting Up, It's Having to Do Things I Don't Like

July 2, 1965
What are we test piloting? We have airplanes that do this for us now. Are in ancient times? Is this an Icarus thing? Icarus has bigger problems than a cliff.

I find this hard to believe. Old people have the most erratic sleep schedule I've ever seen. They're up between 4 and 6 every morning. Maybe at the latest, 8 to 9. But an old person sleeping until noon? That's not real.
