At Least Obama Doesn't Have a Banner
Hmm. I haven't heard of President Obama taking credit for killing Osama Bin Laden. I have heard that he took credit for ordering the Navy SEALS to do it which is really all the credit he should get. And for those of you who think the President shouldn't get credit for Bin Laden, you know President Bush and his administration would've milked this for all it was worth. Obama has moved onto other things.

ReAction Comics #1
I have been a fan of Superman since 1992's "Death of Superman". Yes, I was one of those people that jumped on the bandwagon but before that I had absolutely no interest in comic books and it got me interested in a true American art form. I don't care that Superman has renounced his United State citizenship. First of all, I didn't know he had one--I figured Clark Kent did. It's a story intended to drum up readers, he still stands for Truth and Justice and Conservatives do know that Superman and all his values were created by two Jewish Canadians, right? I feel Superman's citizenship will be back by Action Comics #925.
I've backed off commenting on Osama bin Laden's demise mainly because there are other people out there who can talk about it a lot better and not put with a cartoon about comic books. I'm glad he is gone. Despite bin Laden not being much of a threat since 2001, he was the main reason we are in Afghanistan so I'm hoping that maybe this can be the start of us getting out of Afghanistan. That's a least what I want.

Does Jerry Holbert make over $250,000 a year?
I don't think Obama thinks this at all. It's not a matter of getting "average Americans" to like him (or the government), it's reducing our debt, budget and generating more money which is what needs to happen. While raising taxes on the rich won't solve all of our budget/debt problems, it's a start.
Unfortunately, even if the higher taxes get approved and actually work to create revenue once a Republican gets into office tax cuts for the rich will be back.

A List That Makes Me Sad
What annoys me is how the GOP are all up in a tizzy about Planned Parenthood and not giving the rich the tax breaks they so obviously deserve and getting rid of those overpaid teacher with their 1996 Toyota Tercels that they seemed to have stopped caring about the still languishing economic crisis. Jobs are still slim pickens, people are still being laid off, gas and groceries are getting a tad expensive.
Just for kicks, let's see what my own state's government has done to help job growth in Kansas.
- Late-term abortion restrictions
- Ordering an audit of the Kansas Bioscience Authority because a representative doesn't like the guy in charge
- Planning "marriage initiatives" to keep people from filing for divorce
- Loosening regulations on AT&T
- Approved a budget that slashes the budget of education to the lowest level in a decade
- Approving a bill requiring to show an ID in order to vote
- Abolishing the Kansas Arts Commission, which was eventually overturned. Had it been shut down, Kansas would've been the only state without an arts commission.
- Approving a bill raising speed limits and making it OK for motorcyclists to run red lights
- Approving unannounced and surprise state investigations for abortion clinics
- Wanting to introduce "faith-based solutions" into the state-run program of SRS
- Repealing a law that says undocumented immigrants can pay in-state tuition

Look, I don't claim to know anything about sports, the military or how to build a house and I think politicians need to admit that they don't know anything about abortion, the people getting abortions or the people performing the abortions.

Hey, Libya

I'm glad we're finally doing comics about the airstrike on Libya. While I understand why we are doing it (I heard something about a "no-fly zone" but I am assuming we caved under pressure for people here and other countries who feel something needs to be done since it is obvious Gaddhafi is not going to step down of his own accord) I don't condone it. We are not the world's policemen and we've been acting like it since George W. Bush came into power, however, I do slightly blame Clinton since we did airstrike Iraq toward the end of his term.
I don't understand why we have to continue to be in Libya. Couldn't we just drop a few bombs, damage a few of Gaddhafi's things, kill some innocent people then have Obama go on TV and say "if Gaddhafi doesn't step down there will be more of the same"? Sigh, I probably just don't understand war.

Not Gringrich for 2012

While I am glad to see people who have a track record and who I actually know wanting to run for president unlike these people who only people in their state have heard of who obviously do not have the common man run. However, I am not excited about Newt Gingrich. Mainly because I remember he wasn't that great in the 1990s and he's still not that great. My choice for Republican Presidential nominee: Mitt Romney. And I'm not joking. I've liked Mitt Romney since the 2008 Campaign.

Tiger Woods? Now That's Topical
I appreciate Tiger Woods going back to what he does best after all his marriage and sex with whores trouble but I'm thinking he needs to retire or stop playing professionally for awhile. I don't know, it just seems like he has some anger issues or something. He has the money, just stop and find something else you are good at.

Can Only Make Twilight Better
If somehow removing the word 'nigger' from Huckleberry Finn actually lasts longer than the time people have spent talking about it so far then copies of the book with the "offending language" are going to be worth something.
I've actually read all these book with the exception of the Bible. I attempted but after I got past Genesis, it lost my interest. I find aging Lolita to 18 more offensive than anything else listed here though although replacing the mice with yarn is a close second.

Irresponsible Is In the Eye of the Beholder
FYI, I Googled "worst congress ever" and "worst congress history" and in 2007, news reports and bloggers were calling that congress the worst ever, too.
Now, I know the caption reads "Most Irresponsible Congress Ever" (proof?) but at least this congress actually did stuff (while complaining how Republicans were hurting this county and Obama was ruining it) and got relatively important things like health care and don't ask, don't tell settled. They weren't like the 80th Congress from 1947-1949 which was labeled the "Do Nothing Congress" or the 2005-2007 which was also labeled the Do Nothing Congress.
There's always going to be bad congresses but if every congress just forgot about what party they were a member of and just debated the issues that are important then maybe more would actually get done. But God forbid you actually discuss things rationally and look at both sides of the issue.

President Palin--Ha! Alliteration
Here's how I feel about Palin running for President in 2012. If she runs, and wins she can no longer "write" books, host reality shows, appear on Fox News or do all the things she does now. When you are President, you are President--you can not waste time yakking with Bill O'Reilly about how the country is being run nor will you have the time to yak with Bill O'Reilly about how the country is being run. I don't think she could do it.

Lynn Jenkins wants to stop Kansas from going off a cliff. She also wants our country to not go off a cliff. According to her, Washington spending is out of control. She, as a CPA, who can earn between $45,000 and $110,000 a year depending on experience, knows the importance of living within our means. The Kansas Republican Party sent me a mailer the other day wanting me to vote for her. It's quite an expensive piece of mail.
OMG!! People who love Obama are able to levitate their car over the guardrail but not the bridge railing!! According to Jenkins (and the KRP), the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act is a failure despite that most of the $862 billion dollars went to tax cuts, the States to help pay for unemployment cases and infrastructure. Jenkins, showing she does not waste taxpayer money, also cut her own budget by $85,000 in 2009 and will cut $200,000 in 2010--probably by firing people, thus adding to the unemployment. Also, $200,000 is just 13% of her budget.
The mailing also says Jenkins has commonsense to have voted against "Obamacare" (which will be the only time I use this derogatory word in a non-joking manner on this blog). No, the health care bill is not good. But it's a start. I'm still wondering why they just didn't promote it as Medicare-for-all. People love Medicare. I should know.
What's funny about Jenkins "watching out for Kansas taxpayers" is that she doesn't. There is proof that she doesn't. Jenkins spent $422,000 on heavy cardstock, glossy promotional mailings in 2009--three times the amount of the other Kansas representatives COMBINED. Yet, she came in $100,000 under budget which in most cases, you would then lose that money the next year. The Office's Oscar Martinez explains. I'm pretty sure she didn't lose that money.

I will not be voting for Jenkins--I didn't vote for her in 2008, so why would I now? I will however be voting to allow people with mental illness to vote.

Muslims Scare Me, Too. Oh, Wait...No They Don't.
Let's take a look at the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.And with the addition of the Fourteenth Amendment, Section I:
All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside. No State shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.Nowhere does it say that freedom of speech is protected at your place of employment. Basically it says that 1)Congress can't run over your freedom of speech and 2)The State cannot run over your freedom of speech. I work for the government and they specifically told us that we do not have opinions and we do not have freedom of speech while we are at work so I can't talk about my thoughts and opinions of abortion, health care, gay people, etc. And neither can you or Juan Williams. And the notion of the Fox News pundits calling for an end to the federal funding NPR receives is laughable because NPR doesn't receive federal funding. About half of their money comes from the stations themselves that carry NPR and the other half is from donations and grants.
I admit that NPR may be a little on the liberal side of things but that's the society we live in now. You either have to be liberal or conservative to make it or you end up losing (i.e., CNN).

I came to like The Beatles late in life. In fact, it wasn't until I was in my twenties when I actually took the time to listen to them. I'm sure people think that is blasphemous but that's the way it is. Also blasphemous: I don't like the song "Boys of Summer".
After actually listening to The Beatles, one has to wonder how anyone could not like their music. There has to be people out there who do not like their music but who really wants to know those people? I imagine they don't like The Beatles for the same reason I am not a fan of Nirvana (!). They probably wonder if the band was still pumping out music long after their prime would anyone still care? If Nirvana was still touring in 2007 celebrating their 20th year, would anyone still care about them? A Beatles 40th Anniversary tour in 2000? While we today would think that would be awesome, if they were pumping out album after every two to five years...it wouldn't be a good and that is why the music of The Beatles has stood up so well. There is only so much of it. And we'll never get more.
Anyway, John Lennon would've turned 70 today if he were still alive. Many of you have probably seen Google's tribute to him with their Google Doodle. I was amazed that none of the editorial cartoonists did a tribute to him. Apparently it was more important to focus on rednecks yelling about how amazing Republicans are and how President Obama is driving this country into the ground. Sigh.....

It's Conspiracy Theory Time
I sincerely hope all forms of cancer will be cured in my lifetime but have you ever thought about why we don't have cures for these things already? We're pretty advanced with a lot of other diseases--being able to cure things once thought incurable. I understand cancer is a bit different since it can change and morph becoming resistant to treatment and such but look at diabetes. How can we have all this medicine and crap that helps regulate diabetes but we can't stretch that out to actually cure it? Because if they cure diabetes or certain forms of cancer, do you realize how much money the pharmaceutical companies would lose? Millions, possibly billions. I like to imagine that they have a small vial of the diabetic cure sitting on a shelf just waiting for the right time to unleash it on the public.

You know, it's my thought that if you stop paying attention to people who say crazy things (Ahmadinejad, the Phelps family, wingnut tea party people) they will go away and eventually stop saying their crazy things. Why do we even pay attention to them. We know the Holocaust happened. We know God doesn't hate America because of the way we treat homosexuals. We know President Obama wasn't born in Kenya.
