Sansom passed away in 1991 and the duties fell to Sansom's son, Chip, who had begun apprenticing with his father in 1977. The strip is currently owned by United Feature Syndicate and distributed by Universal Press Syndicate's uClick. The Born Loser appears in over 1,300 newspapers in 35 countries and is a six-time National Cartoonists Society nominee.
